Donnington Grove, Royal Berkshire

My Golf Break Venue of the Day

Today's venue is set in a delightful and secluded position, on the outskirts of Newbury in Royal Berkshire, and is overlooked by the historic Donnington Castle.

Donnington Grove Country Club estate runs to 550 acres and is a mixture of parkland, farmland and woodland, with the River Lambourn running through it. The house on the estate was built between 1763 and 1772 in a style known as Strawberry Hill Gothic.

The 18 hole course is over 7,100 yards long, and presents a stiff challenge for low handicap golfers. The course consists of two halves that are very different in character; the front nine is undulating on higher ground and has stunning views over the surrounding countryside, while the back nine is classic parkland, with an abundance of beautiful trees and water hazards.
